Truthfully, there are a lot of aspects of business that are crucial to success. So singling one thing out is hard. There is, however, one particular corporate concept that probably receives the most attention — but not because it’s important!
Rather, because it’s such a pain in the neck.
I’m talking about corporate training. Start shuddering, people.
Picture this: you’re starting a retail job, and you’re first three days are ‘training days.’ Learning the ropes. Getting the ins and outs. Knowing where the bathroom is. Easy stuff.
The problem is dealing with the ‘trainer.’ You know the guy (or girl). He (or she) is a stuffy, grumpy, crabby, snappy, crappy excuse for a human being, typically frowning and always looking sad and bored. And for good reason.
Those Who Can’t Do, Teach
Ever heard of the phrase? That couldn’t be more right. The fact is there’s nothing more discouraging than being told you can’t do something even though you’ve got the knowledge. Your call centers and auto attendants, of course, don’t have to worry about anything! But since you can’t do it, you might as well ‘teach’ it. Sort of a downgrade, don’t you think?
After thinking of it that way, you can imagine that it’s a lot easier to cut the ‘trainer’ some slack and let the bad attitude slide a little bit. After all, there would only be three ‘training days.’
Corporate Training Is a Tough Deal
Now isn’t that an understatement? It’s important to have, but hard to deliver. Therefore some companies go a little sub-par on it just to get through the motions and have the new recruits or employees learn by experience.
But doesn’t your company or entrepreneurship deserve a little more than that?
Enter this helpful app from the Google Marketplace:
Docebo E-Learning LMS
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
When you can train someone literally from clear across the world, you know you’re dealing with convenience, ease of use, and the latest in technology.
Docebo takes training to the next level by providing a management system tailored to your needs, whatever they may be — you can provide your own training materials, create your own tests, manage a forum for your trainees, deliver online certificates of completion, and over 50 other features.
It’s also SCORM compliant along with chat capability, allowing for some interaction. Because Lord knows you need a bit of communication and interaction for training to even be effective. Installation and activation’s free, and the app even includes a few free classes like English Language, Health and Safety, Management, and Soft Skills.
Sometimes you, as the user, may be a little frustrated with the technical aspects of Docebo E-Learning, but no worries; a helpdesk is available, plus if you already have some notes and outlines online through Google Docs or even the Microsoft SkyDrive, Docebo can sync all of that for you quickly.
In essence, the app helps training go a lot smoother — at least when it comes to obstacles like location, distance, or scheduling.
Some of the Downsides
Which brings us to some of the things that might deter you from taking on this app. And it all boils down to what makes training effective:
Hands-on experience.
Docebo doesn’t really incorporate that. How could it? It’s all done online! The app does serve its purpose, though. Just don’t think that it can replace true effective on-the-job training. The problem is making sure the on-the-job training is effective enough to last. That brings us back to Mr. Grumpy ‘Trainer’ Dude, obviously.
Know as well that Docebo primarily caters to a crowd that deals with distance issues. If you’re a company that’s mainly mobile and global, getting from one person to the next can be a task. Docebo makes it easier for you. But if you’re a retail store, it’s not that hard to get from one side of the building to the other! Get what I’m saying?
When it’s all about hands-on quality training, if you can get to the trainee or the trainee can get to you, that’s the first step. The rest is up to you.
Smile For God’s Sake!
Clearly the most effective ‘app,’ though, for training would have to be a smile. Don’t be a grump. Be happy! Still, when everything’s kind of down and you’re upset over the fact that you’ve been reduced to a lowly trainer, Docebo E-Learning LMS can give you a break!
