Spotlight – Amy Simmons of Amy’s Ice Cream Wants to Grow Slowly

Amy Simmons of Amy’s Ice Cream has grown an iconic chain of ice cream parlors in Austin, Texas. Her career in the business began at Tufts University, where she was a pre-medical student and working at Steve’s Ice Cream.

When that ice cream retailer got bought by a large corporation, Amy decided to go into business for herself. Writing a “hot check” for her first location on Guadalupe Street, Amy went on to open 9 more locations and has been voted “Best Ice Cream” 8 years in a row by Austinites.

She has recently stated that she does not intent to “expand rapidly” and that she wants to remain rooted to her community and to ensuring a fun workplace that serves the highest quality ice cream.
