How do I know what sound recording application to use?

Windows usually ships with the Windows Sound Recorder already installed. Any version of Windows NT or Windows XP will enable you to create an audio recording in the correct file format.

To find the Windows Sound Recorder, click on your Start menu.

  • For Windows NT: AccessoriesMultimediaSound Recorder
  • For Windows XP: AccessoriesEntertainmentSound Recorder

If you prefer to use another audio recording program, you are welcome to. Remember to make certain the file ends up in the correct format:

  • CCITT μLaw, 8KHz, 8 bit, mono.
  • .au file extension
