The policeman arrived at the scene of an accident to find that a car had struck a telephone pole. Searching for witnesses, he discovered a pale, nervous young man in work clothes who claimed he was an eyewitness.
“Exactly where were you at the time of the accident?” inquired the officer.
“Mister,” exclaimed the telephone lineman, “I was at the top of the pole!”

Hold On by Wilson PhillipsSome people theorize that companies use bad music to encourage customers to hang up before they have to talk to them. I have a different theory. I think companies use music that they think either fits the theme of “please hold” (Hold On, Jeopardy theme, Hold Me Now) or is “safe”.
Everybody knows who they are, but nobody is willing to say something to them. They are the employees who don’t work well with others and you wouldn’t dream of having them talk to a customer. But every once in awhile, you have no option but to ask them to be receptionist for a short time.
Makes me shudder when I think of a socially-challenged employee answering the phone. Remember Ghostbusters? Remember when Janine, already in a foul mood, picks up the phone and says “Ghostbusters, whaddaya want?”
